Micro Elements (First Draft)

FM1 : Film analysis

1500 words of film analysis referring to two micro-elements of ‘mise-en-scene’ and ‘cinematography’. My choice of a particular film clip is from ‘Green Street Hooligans’. The clip goes on for 3 and half minutes, packed with vehicle and human stunts. I will be exploring how my chosen micro-elements create meaning for an audience and provoke response.

Location
The clip is set in the London Underground, late at night; this holds connotations of mystery and unseen action. There aren’t many people in there at the time the firm arrive. The underground is very dirty and gritty, allowing the audience to expect unlawful acts to take place.  The firm meets the Tottenham firm in the underground with only the train tracks between their platforms. An argument breaks out and a train drives between them which creates a visual divide between the two firms connoting a territorial rivalry between them.

Costume

The ‘firm’ are wearing the typical firm clothes like stone island and Burberry. They wear the typical clothes that you would associate with football hooliganism. The haircut of the top boy in the firm is a crew cut which is associated with prison and violence. The character adheres to the stereotype that men with crew cuts fight, smoke, drink and are involved with criminal activity.

Body language
The way the firms are stood on the platform infers that they are ready to fight and they are not scared of each other.  They are casual about the whole situation and don’t seem to be fazed by it atall.

Props
When the firm enter the underground there is a scrunched up tin can that they are kicking about pretending it is a football, this connotes that they do have a true love and passion for the game because wherever they are they are talking about it or playing, listening or even watching it.

Peace

They encounter London rivals Tottenham’s firm in the station and engage in conversation
